Description:

Battery Park City, found on the southwestern tip of Manhattan, is one of the newest neighborhoods in New York City. Built upon the dirt and rock excavated from the construction of the World Trade Center, this planned community is surrounded by the Hudson River from the north, south and west, and insulated from the Financial District by West Street in the east. Consisting of residential and commercial districts, Battery Park City boasts an array of new high-rise residential buildings, malls, supermarkets, restaurants, and movie theaters, as well as the World Financial Center, which houses the offices of major corporations. The area is named for the adjacent Battery Park, a serene greenspace with promenades and bikeways that allow residents to take advantage of the scenic views. The extensive greenery, tree-lined streets, and spectacular water views distinguish this neighborhood, giving it an almost suburban atmosphere. While in close proximity to the Financial District and the rest of Manhattan, families and professionals enjoy the tranquility of biking and walking along the waterfront, outdoor concerts and the luxury of open space.
